Small Groups
SMALL GROUPS DEFINED

Everyone can benefit from a small group. The security of belonging to a family was God’s idea. Godly relationships are the best way for spiritual and whole-life transformation to take place. Transformation happens when we know God in Christ Jesus, develop friendships, talk about God and His word, discover support from one another, and reach out to others. We encourage everyone to join one or more small groups of you’re choosing. Following are four types of groups and their descriptions:

1. LIFE or CARE GROUPS – meet to talk about what’s going on in your daily life, and encourage one
Another; may incorporate what the Bible has to say about your concerns.

2. STUDY GROUPS – meet to dig deeper into the Bible, and learn what it teaches about God, salvation,
God’s will, and living a Godly life.

Two types:
1. Groups that meet year round or most of the year for Bible study
2. Classes which meet for shorter periods of time (one or more weeks)

3. SUPPORT GROUPS – meet to offer care, counsel, and encouragement for those facing special
challenges such as grief, dying, managing finances, marriage or parenting, or life-dominating habits
such as alcohol, drugs, pornography, gambling, etc.

Examples:
1. 12 step group (help for life dominating problems),
2. Moms and Munchkins (support moms of small children)

4. SERVICE GROUPS – meet to develop skills that are used to perform a task which ministers to other
people’s needs. Develops friendships and reliance upon God to bless your labors of love and bring
forth fruitfulness in the lives of those you touch.

Examples:
1. Sign Team
2. Worship Team
3. Quilters for God

SERVICE GROUPS

The distinction between small groups and service groups: Small groups focus more on helping people get deeper rooted in the faith through study and discussion of Scripture and/or DVD’s or books, as well as being real, promoting deeper relationships, and reaching out. Service groups also strive to be real persons in their Christian walk, who develop closer relationships through the group activities, and who may reach out to include others. But instead of deeper Bible studies and discussion, their focus is on a particular task they want to accomplish to glorify God and meet a need.
